The Alan Turing Institute will carry out a programme of science and innovation specifically developed to defend the nation from hostile threats, according to a Tuesday declaration.

This fresh focus follows significant changes at the state-funded body, including the departure of its previous CEO last month after both workforce dissatisfaction and government pressure for comprehensive reform.

Growing Cybersecurity Concerns

The new mission comes amid growing concern about the UK's exposure to online disruptions and online threats.

Recent incidents have highlighted these vulnerabilities, including a major outage affecting global cloud computing and fresh digital assaults that affected operations at major factories and distribution networks across several organizations.

Guidance and Direction

A former commander of the Britain's aerial defense command will deliver recommendations next month on how the government-funded institute can optimally help the scale of government AI ambitions in national security, homeland protection and intelligence.

Operational Restructuring

The institute's chair, a previous Amazon UK leader, confirmed that nearly eighty separate studies at the 440-staff institute have been terminated, transferred out or finished because they aren't consistent with the revised strategy.

Organizational Difficulties

The institute has faced internal strife since last year as workers demonstrated against reforms, culminating in a collection of workers submitting a formal grievance to the relevant regulatory body.
