Supporters Call for Arrest of Person Who Seized Ariana Grande
Loyal fans of Ariana Grande are calling for that a person who leaped a barricade and touched the performer during Thursday's Wicked: For Good debut be detained or removed from Singapore.
A widely shared clip reveals the individual from Australia pushing past media personnel and rushing toward Grande while the actors made its way down a yellow carpet accompanied by onlookers.
Cast member Cynthia Erivo immediately wrested the shocked actress away from Mr Wen, who was observed being led away of the premiere by guards.
Mr Wen shared on Instagram recently that he was "free after being arrested", though official papers showed that he was due to be present on the following morning. It is uncertain if he was charged.
History of Event Invasions
This is part of a pattern for Mr Wen, who describes himself as a "Controversial Figure", has crashed a celebrity gathering. His Instagram account contains videos of him disturbing other celebrity events, including breaching the performance area at the artist's Sydney performance in earlier this year and in a like fashion during The Chainsmokers event in the same location last winter.
"There needs to be action enforced against him as this is clearly a punishable act," wrote an Instagram commenter, in a message to a video Mr Wen posted of his behavior.
"Oh wow so you do this a lot... how aren't you in jail?" another Instagram user wrote.
Followers Voice Worry Over the Star's Safety
Several supporters accused Mr Wen for "triggering past anxiety" Grande, who had revealed experiencing post-traumatic stress disorder after a terrorist explosion at the conclusion of her 2017 performance in Manchester, killing 22 people and wounding numerous individuals.
"After everything she's faced... including the Manchester attack, you considered it entertaining to rush the barrier?" wrote a further comment on Instagram.
Some fans also criticised guards at the gathering for not being sufficiently alert; while some demanded social media platforms to block Mr Wen's content.
Response and Event Details
In footage shared widely, Grande looked startled when she was touched by the man. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed consoling her while Mr Wen was led out by security.
Grande has not commented on the incident, and the remaining proceedings carried on uninterrupted.
Hundreds of fans had gathered in a crowd of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good regional premiere in a Singapore venue, including several who had waited for as long as a significant duration before it commenced.
The film, to be premiered on the 21st of November, is the second of a two-part version of the acclaimed theatrical musical Wicked, which focuses on the surprising friendship between two distinct characters.
The show itself is a adaptation of the twentieth-century book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who portrays the benevolent sorceress Glinda, was decked out in a light pink glittering gown at the gathering while Erivo, who acts as the villainous character, wore a sleek black dress decorated with roses.
They were accompanied by cast member Jeff Goldblum.
The initial film, Wicked, was the highest-grossing movie of last year in the UK, and earned ten Academy Award nods, winning two for best costume and artistic direction.
