Slot Maintains He Is Safe and Has The Club's Backing Following PSV Defeat
Arne Slot conceded that it's expected for questions to be raised about his future following another heavy defeat against the Dutch champions.
Liverpool suffered their ninth defeat in 12 matches, marking the team's poorest run since being demoted in 1953-54.
They were outplayed by the Eredivisie title holders on a punishing evening at Anfield.
“I feel secure, I am OK, I have got significant backing from management,” Slot commented.
“It would be nice to reverse this trend and secure a win of course but when you're in a managerial role and not doing well then it is normal that doubts arise.”
He continued, “I'm comfortable with my position. This isn't the first time I’ve been in a tough spot but it is about time that we turned it around.”
Talks with Club Management
Upon being questioned to expand on his discussions with the club's leadership, Slot explained:
“We communicate frequently. They are supportive for the squad and to me and those talks happen but they aren't calling me every single minute of the day to say they back me.”
He added, “Through standard conversations we have I perceive the belief. But I haven’t spoken to them since this defeat so far so it remains to be seen.”
Recurring Failings and Player Response
Slot highlighted familiar failings from his squad in their Champions League defeat, namely missed opportunities and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Jones was blunter in his assessment of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the answers. Frankly, I do not. I'm telling that to all,” Jones stated.
“It is not good enough. I don’t even need to wait to consider it. I'm beyond feeling anger inside. I’m at the point now where I simply lack the words.”
He continued, “It's difficult because I play for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I've watched this club since I was young.”
“For many years, I've not seen a Liverpool team enduring a period of this nature with outcomes like these.”
He concluded, “But we still have the crest on our shirts. And until that badge is gone, we will always fight.”
“We will attempt to help the side back to the top, demonstrate to all once more the values of this club and why people call it the best team in the planet.”
“However currently, things are bad and it must improve.”
