Manchester United Set to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Marquee Acquisition for United
The forward, with six months remaining on her contract, has been a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing will be seen as a major signing for the Women’s Super League side.
Departure from Munich was expected since she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the club's supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading forwards. According to reports, the formalities for the transfer are now finalised.
Consistent Goal Threat to Boost the Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a significant uplift to United’s forward line. Schüller has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- For seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Building Steam at Carrington
Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club appear to be gathering positive momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the winter break has seen additional business:
- The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.
Regarding the midfielder's extension, a senior figure commented: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
