Los Angeles Experiences Unprecedented High Temperatures Only One Week After Major Winter Weather.
After enduring significant rainfall that led to inundation across sections of the city, LA is now grappling with unseasonably warm temperatures for the end of February.
All-Time High Readings
During the day Friday, the thermometer soared to ninety-one degrees Fahrenheit in the city center, according to the National Weather Service. This exceeds the previous daily record for February 27th, which was 88°F (31°C) and was set just last year.
"Unusually high temperatures" were labeled on NWS charts for the region.
Safety Warnings
Forecasters issued a warning that Friday's conditions posed an "higher threat for heat illness" for those at risk. Their guidance suggested:
- Drinking plenty of fluids.
- Limiting outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day.
- Not leaving children or pets unattended in a hot car.
An Extreme Reversal
This dramatic increase in temperature follows closely after a powerful winter storm that pummeled the state recently. That storm unleashed high winds, thunderstorms, and significant snowfall to the mountains, causing flash flood warnings for millions residents.

Forecast Ahead
The outlook suggests cooler conditions is coming. Temperatures were expected to drop to around 61°F (16°C) in central Los Angeles by late Friday.
Other locales that reached the 90-degree mark were Woodland Hills, Long Beach, and Burbank. Additionally, Oxnard, Westwood, Camarillo, and Santa Maria were expected to see the upper eighties.
In the coming days, downtown Los Angeles can see weather in the eighties, with cooler weather likely for the week ahead.
