Iran Reports Strike on American Facility in Bahrain, Amid Regional Counterattacks.
Tehran reports attacking a US naval base in Bahrain, as the country executed strikes throughout the Middle East in response for a large-scale and continuing attack against it by the United States and Israeli forces.
Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an zone in the area of the command center of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The full scale of any destruction is not yet known and the American officials has not commented.
Regional Interceptions
Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, Qatar and the State of Kuwait - all home to US military bases - reported they have engaged and destroyed incoming projectiles in their airspace.
In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry said it had successfully engaged a number of projectiles seemingly aimed at the al-Udeid air base, the biggest US military installation in the region.
Operation "Truthful Promise 4"
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard stated it was striking American facilities and interests as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the attack on the Islamic Republic launched by the US and Israel on Saturday morning.
That US-Israeli operation - launched at around 06:15 GMT - has so far struck locations linked to the Iranian leadership, with US President Donald Trump encouraging the Iranian people to revolt against the government.
Wider Impacts
In the State of Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israeli military reported it had detected an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The Ministry of Defence of the United Arab Emirates said in a statement that the nation has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"Emirati air defenses dealt with the missiles with great effectiveness and destroyed a number of missiles," the statement continued.
It said missile fragments landed in a neighborhood in the capital, causing some structural damage and fatalities.
The United States Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, south of Abu Dhabi, along with the UAE Air Force.
