Former Doctor Accused of Sexual Assault Charges Involving Thirty-Eight Patients

Prosecutors have announced that a former physician stands accused of carrying out assaults against thirty-eight victims who were under his care.

The Serious Charges

Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham is accused of numerous acts of sexual assault – including acts against minors under the age of thirteen – between 2017 to 2021.

One deputy chief CPS official commented, “Legal teams have diligently worked to assist a detailed and complex police inquiry, carefully reviewing the available evidence to establish that there is sufficient evidence to proceed to trial and that it is in the interest of justice.”

Scope of the Police Inquiry

The charges come after what investigators described as a “detailed inquiry” into alleged sexual offences at two hospitals: the Royal Stoke university hospital and Russells Hall hospital.

The defendant is due to appear at the local magistrates' court on January 20th.

List of Offences

Prosecutors outline the 45 sexual offences comprise:

  • 15 counts of sexual assault.
  • 17 counts of penetrative assault.
  • 9 counts of sexual assault of a child under 13.
  • Three counts of penetrative assault on a child under thirteen.
  • 1 count of attempting to assault by penetration.

Police have asked anyone with concerns to get in touch with the investigating team.
