Brian Eno Encourages Support to Get Palestinian Solidarity Song to UK Christmas No 1.
A charity drive is aiming to propel a Palestinian lullaby to the Christmas number one spot. The project aims to send support to Gaza's residents while also highlighting Palestinian artistic heritage.
An Opportunity for Solidarity and an "Unlikely Coup"
Composer and producer Brian Eno, who features on the track, stated that the single 'Lullaby' represents a opportunity to stand with Palestinians this festive season. He noted the potential for an unlikely festive coup.
“It would be incredible if that happened, yes,” he stated. “I wouldn't be completely let down if it doesn’t, holiday tracks are a unique phenomenon.”
Resilient Spirit of Freedom and Dignity
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who sings on the reimagining of a cultural piece called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the track's defiant core message.
“The song holds a profound significance for many individuals,” Barghouti explained. “It’s basically saying that I would prefer a dignified death than exist without freedom. That is the core idea of the song; we desire to exist a dignified life that we are entitled to as Palestinians.”
Track's Background and Contributing Musicians
The single was laid down following a large-scale benefit event held in late summer. Originally intended to be done as a live recording, the performance was shelved during the concert due to the event running long.
The impressive roster of performers appearing on Lullaby features a range of well-known figures from the industry. All were part of the September show, which reportedly raised a considerable total for humanitarian aid.
Final Touches and Availability
Lullaby was crafted by a team of music creators. The track showcases a fusion of the original Arabic with freshly written English words.
The organizers behind the initiative have stated that their objective is to collect the highest amount for a specific fund. These resources will be distributed to initiatives supporting Palestinians through an non-profit partner.
“We don’t have a rigid aim,” a representative commented. “We’ll go for as much as possible. Of course, the more the merrier. It all goes out to the people of Gaza.”
The reality in the region was characterized as its extreme devastation, with a huge proportion of buildings said to be levelled or seriously harmed.
“Against that backdrop, a couple of million won't make that much difference. But I think the significant factor is first of all making this cause better known and proving the human dimension of the story.”
The single 'Lullaby' is launching on Friday. Additionally, a video of the charity concert will be made available for streaming on a digital service from the 19th of December.
