A Pig's Tale: Pig Named Six Seven Spared by Miami-Dade Mayor.

While perhaps not at the same level as pardoning festive fowl, but the mayor of Miami-Dade conducted a ceremonial pardon event this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“This animal is guiltless. Clemency is justified for her. Her criminal record is spotless,” Levine Cava said in a speech with inescapable allusions to the sheer volume of pardons issued since the onset of a second term in office.

“Except perhaps for eating six or seven apples per day,” she went on. “Let this swine have a lengthy and joyful existence away from worry.”

The gathering, which both honors and questions the region’s Hispanic tradition of consuming swine during the holidays, was established to mirror the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.

The pig, provided by a first responder, was christened after the modern linguistic fad of young people exclaiming “6-7” – originating from a hip-hop line – often without clear purpose. The phrase became so ubiquitous that a major dictionary recently named “six-seven” its annual vocabulary selection.

A New Life

The pardoned swine is now destined to live out its days at a farm sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the ceremony's official statement.

“The annual pig pardon has become a cherished method to begin the festive period,” said the cafe owner, in a decidedly positive message.

“It captures the essence of Miami: joyful, varied, and rooted in traditions that unite the community. Annually, we are proud to celebrate culture and compassion in a way unique to Miami.”

Guests enjoyed a meat-free selection of croquettes and strong coffee as they celebrated Six Seven’s big moment.
