A Limited-Edition Pikachu Promo Aims to Curb the Influence Against Resellers

To celebrate the arrival of the fascinating new book Pokécology: An Illustrated Guide to Pokémon Ecology, a unique collaboration is underway. The Pokémon Company alongside London's Natural History Museum are opening a pop-up shop featuring exclusive items. Enthusiasts will find offerings including stationery, plushes, and artwork all drawing from the museum's theme. The big draw, however, is a specially made Pikachu card, offered as a gift with purchase for the pop-up. This shop will operate both the physical location to its web counterpart from January 26 to April 19.

The Book Behind the Collaboration

Pokécology: An Illustrated Guide to Pokémon Ecology is a highly anticipated tome filled with beautiful artwork that show Pokémon in their natural habitats. The concept like what an in-world scientist could produce after adventurers provide field notes, alternatively what Charles Darwin could have sketched if the Galapagos were populated by flying-types instead of birds. Part of the charm lies in the book's scholarly treatment, treating Pokémon as a legitimate scientific study. Writer Yoshinari Yonehara together with illustrator Chihiro Kinoshita both hold doctorate degrees in animal behavior and ecology.

What Makes This Promo Card Stand Out

The company regularly for The Pokémon Company to release cards celebrating major tournaments and crossover partnerships. A lot such collector items typically highlight the iconic electric rodent who serves as the franchise mascot. The factor setting this latest museum card is its distinctly bigger size. Although exact measurements have not been immediately shared, its distribution is guaranteed to be strictly limited, with fans able to get only a single card per purchase.

Limiting Reseller Activity

According to an official statement, some of the pop-up items may also be available beyond the institution itself. But, broader availability is slated for specific stores in the UK. Importantly, fans will not be able to acquire this promo through the online Pokémon Center. Although speculator demand is a given, it appears they're going to have trouble stockpiling large numbers this time around. For those unable to attend, consider the upcoming Pokémon Fossil exhibit headed to Chicago in the coming months.

"Every penny from purchases from the museum store and its online store, which covers these items, support the Natural History Museum’s charitable mission. That encompasses the efforts of 400 scientists dedicated to conducting studies to discover solutions to the planetary emergency," the statement notes.
